Be Careful

Be Careful
By Tanika Parks

Be careful who you hang around.
I learned that! Because I went through that! And I dealt with that!
No one taught me that, I discovered that!

Searching, talking, looking, but not a sound
I only heard one sound, and that was my name.
Straight face on my face! I have a mean look…
Tanika this, Tanika that, dang! Can I have my name back?

I’m like Dr. Martin Luther King.
I’m thinking here, like why?
But it turns out that life for me isn’t gonna be the same.
But hey, guess what? Friends can’t have that.

To be honest I don’t need that.
I took that but I don’t want that.
I stick to true friends and loyal friends
Best friends or just no friends!
Why? Because your friends can actually turn out
To be your real enemies.

But I want a loyal friend and a real friend
I don’t want nobody that’s two-faced.
They will try to find your weakness, they’ll always do that.
Then they’ll try to ruin your life
There’s things you can’t have back.

I know how it feels to get bullied…
It feels so bad.
It’s like a storm blowing down houses,
Knocking down trees.

Can’t you just believe…
It feels like the rain is coming from you,
Tears in your eyes,
The lightning in the sky.
The thunder is so loud, it’s sad…
That it’s coming from you.

But here’s the thing,
It’s not over yet, be glad
That you have life. Thank Jesus.
Yes, up there they see us,
Watching over us
They believe you. and they’ll forgive you!
