Dear Sister

Dear Sister

By Pricilla Anani Banuelos

She comes home, lays on the bed like a stone.

Tired.

Gets up, gets dressed, leaves and comes home.

Sour and sweaty.

Giving up is no excuse for her.

For she is a woman, but a strong one just like the rest.

She tries her best.

Tired.

Keeps moving forward knowing it will pay off.

Tired.

Of all the pushups that she does, but then goes down,

Ignoring the pain of her arms.

Come on, come on!

BAM she’s back up!

It was a dream to fit in skinny jeans.

Tired.

Of working, coming home, working out.

HA! And she says she can’t multitask.

Tired.

Of guys saying, “women can’t do this and that.”

Well she once told me,

“No ahi ninguna cosa que una mujer no puede hacer.”

Proud of her race, her gender, her improvement, herself.

Yes she may get tied.

But never gives up!
