Going through the Motions

By: Riley Dean

Going through the motions

As I walk through the streets of Fernandina Beach, Florida,

I see Blue Jays and Swallows around every corner,

I look to my left and see the sea, look to my right and see the sea,

All the while,

I’m going through the motions

I smell the coffee from the near by coffee shop,

Almost tasting it’s pungent flavor;

Thinking of what to do and where to go

All the while,

I’m going through the motions

I walk past the harbor,

Where I see the boats gently rocking along the waves,

I’m sitting on a bench in the December breeze,

All the while,

I’m going through the motions

I reach out and touch the water,

The ocean is cold, but its warm all the same

All the while,

I’m going through the motions.
