“La Miss” Susan Travers

Koenig decided we had to try and cross the enemy line
I didn’t know what to do except accept his command
Afraid I was since he decided to do so at night
Through minefields and like tanks that surrounded that enemy line
June 10 now it is and I’m driving his car now with him and Amilakhvari
Koening said “We have to get in front now”
“If we go the rest will follow”
Concerned I was since afraid I was for the engine could stall
10:30 am, June 11 we had entered the British lines our heads standing tall
Seeing what followed got out guess what we found
11 bullets hit us, shock absorber destroyed, and brakes didn’t work eerie sound
Guess what happened afterward, I wish I could have done more to help
But only 2,400 allied groups out of Bir Hakeim were 3,700 allied groups had once stood
And 650 legionnaires out of 1,000 were saved
