Laziness

Laziness

by: Mackenzie Proctor

My mama always taught me that

laziness doesn’t lead to success,

And other people’s answers

don’t lead to college degrees.

Answer sheets on the internet

aren’t there for the final exam.

And sittin’ on the couch all day

isn’t the same as working.

Laziness is a cheat out of life.

Leading her higher and higher,

she uses this to motivate her in life.

To not do the cheap way,

to be stronger,

to be a better person.

There is no “high enough”,

there is always something

you could do better.

She uses this to motivate me.

I just remember that

I have to be the better person

and do my own work.

Because Laziness

and cheating

and lying

darkens my heart.

And working will get you

to the top of the mountain.

I would like to see you

pass all of your college

classes with nothing

but cheat sheets

and other people’s answers.

That’s what people do

in grade school.

But not in college

you would get caught.

How about reaching

conference champs,

with no practice,

because you didn’t feel like it.

Not very realistic.

Because winners work hard

and winning comes

with a price

that isn’t exactly cheap.

Because

laziness doesn’t

lead you to success,

but

work will.

And work will

make you better,

stronger,

wiser.
