Longing

Longing

by Lauren Alvarez

City lights shine so bright that the shy stars stay hidden

The feeling of the desert air brushing across my face

Longing for the feel in sin city

The dryness of the streets and no moisture in the air is what I long the most

Yet my home, so warm and secure is what I long to feel once again

Longing for familiar faces, longing for hugs that only my family can provide

Hanging around with cousins and laughing until our eyes pop out

The sound of chatter, the sound of laughter is like music to my ears

With my absence, the music in my ears have vanished

My family so sweet and so gentle is who I long to see once again

My home so meaningful, so special and is where I long to be

The place that I always took for granite

This is the place that completes me

I long to be back at the place I call home
