Mommy told me

My name is Maya Angelo
I help the blacks grow
people disrespect
I still rise
they become surprised
and don’t realize that I still rise
otherwise I ignore
while they snore

people want to forget what you did
or what you said
but can never forget how you made them feel
and pretend like it was no big deal
and try to run from that feel

Black lives matter
it starts to become a pattern
that blacks become sadder
because of the police ladder increasing
and they unleash the guns and weapons
they threaten us
while mom’s are home sweating and counting their blessing
but I still rise
