My Cousin’s Life

My Cousin’s Life

By Leidy Rojas

Dear Luis,

I used to look at your kind eyes
and think you were a good cousin.

Because you were as nice as a rabbit.

But look at you now, you’re only 16 and you
have a baby.

It didn’t seem like this would happen
but you know
everything
changes.

You should be taking care of your baby.
Instead you leave with your friends.

One day we will know you are
missing
but you won’t even care.
