My Sister and I

My Sister and I
by Hilary Hickenbottom

We sat watching City of Bones a movie I hated
because she spoiled it
but I stayed because I love her.

The stench of her putting on acrylic nails
made me sick, like the flu
but I stayed because I love her.

Sometimes we argue
because she shouts things
like “ Oh my god! We have a dog!”
but I stayed because I love her.

She takes so long in the bathroom
fixing her brown and blonde ombre hair
and powdering her freckled face
but I stayed because I love her.

We love each other until the end of time
My sister
and I.
