See Me

See Me

by Shondria Smith

(Oklahoma City, OK)

I know you see me,

the way I walk,

the way I talk

I know you see me,

the disgusted look on my face

from the judgment these days,

the violence,

and the torture on people I see.

I know you see me, ‘cause I can see you.

And if you can see me,

you know that you can stop this,

just like me,

without weapons and harm

just from our words

and taking charge.

I know you see me,

that tired look on my face

from all that spitting, cussing, judging, disobeying

hey, I could just go on,

all the pressure we get

from all the people these days.

I know you see me,

and it ain’t gone change

I’m taking a stand

just like you can.
