Shadow
Shadow
By Teyano Thompson
If I can own my very own unique personality and not follow where I don’t want to go,
Then I won’t live in a shadow
If I can every minute of the sweet sound of onomatopoeia while others are silent at the side lines,
If I can keep my chin held high and not be mopey all the time,
Then I won’t live in a shadow,
If I can be judged and not be regretful about every little thing I did,
If I can grasp my hands onto the truth and not forget all the dreams I had,
If I can be watchful and not leave out details,
If I can be proud of who I am and not wish I was like someone else I think was better than me,
And not think of myself negatively,
Then I won’t live in a shadow,
Then I will be the rhythm of my own poem
