Stay Strong

Stay Strong

By Daizy Salas

She doesn’t have a schedule for work.
But she knows what has to be done at what time
Her husband isĀ gone but never forgotten.

The three kids are all in different age groups.
One an adult, another a teenager,
Her little baby turning double digits.

She knows English, knows the laws, the rules of immigrants
But still gets cheated in her money.

Her family is blessed to have a strong woman that flies around town like a bird to get what her kids need.
They all thank God for how blessed they are every Sunday.
They walk into church happier than a little kid with ice cream.

The first thing she hears are the speakers yelling at her to stay strong,
Keep going
Keeping her motivated

She’s not alone.
She gets a call for the first time from jail.
Her one and only assures her everything will be okay.
The only thing she feels is her heart melt as fast as a red Popsicle in the hot month of July.
