The Girl That Tried

The girl that’s scared of showing

of showing who she really is

during class she never makes a fizz

Frightened by other girls talking about her

she wishing she could fly away just like a bird

Next day of school you see lines

under the palm of his wrist

her burning desire

just like Sierra Mist.

Behind the school you see droppings of blood on the ground and the wall

every other second seeing a fist against

her face treating her like a doll.

Walking home with a broken bone and bruises on her face

wondering why her life is such a waste.

Next day of school

she tried standing up for herself

but the next morning

mother,

found her in the closet

and her feet off the ground

mother,

tears dripping down her face.
