things we teach

We teach the boys that they shouldn’t cry.
That they should be buff,
that they should be tough.
And that they should sleep with as many girls as possible.
And that if they were homosexual it’d be way less acceptable
than if they were girls.

And the girls,oh the things they teach us.
We are taught that “it’s our fault”
if we are assaulted while wearing something
“too revealing.”
We are taught that
if we were to ever get married our top priority
should be our husband.
And that we should put him over everything else.
according to the bible of course.

The same bible that says that if a man is ever caught taking advantage of a woman all he has to do is pay her father and marry her, and it’s all good fam

We are taught to watch what we wear in front of men, because
if we don’t then
“we were asking for it.”

Instead of teaching boys self control,
we teach them that the type of clothing a girl wears gives them the right
to call them
bitches
and hoes.
We teach them how to be the kind of boy that you want their sisters to stay away from.

We teach their sisters to stay away from boys who act like their brothers.
We teach them that they’re too fat
until they starve themselves.
We them that they aren’t thick enough
until they stuff themselves,
then they remember that they’re too fat
so they throw it up.

We allow the media to sell us our insecurities
and I’m just not talking about the girls
I’m talking about the boys too.

The same boys that we teach should always masculine,
the boys we teach that
if they take too much pride in their appearances
that they must be gay.
We teach them that if they truly love their girlfriends
that they’re lame.

We teach their girlfriends that
if they sleep with too many people
they’re a whore and that
if they don’t sleep with anyone
they’re a prude.

And I say we because I mean society
and we are society,
whether we like it or not.
We are Some of the very people that teach these things
and more than likely most of us will teach them to our children
because we learned them from our parents.

I won’t,
I’ll break the chain of sexism,
double standards,
and gender roles.

I’ll teach my son self control
and that no means no.
I’ll teach him how to be the kind of boy
i’d want my daughter to date.

I’ll teach my daughter that her purpose in life
will never be to please a man
whether that be her husband
or a man of higher power.
And I’ll teach her that no matter what she was wearing
it was not her fault.

Most of you were expecting something depressing.
But I wrote this to teach lesson.
The things we teach need to change
,if the world stays the same
we’ll be the ones to blame.
We are the future,
the generation.
Before I go I want to say something.

A beautiful face with nothing to say
is simply just a beautiful face,
and nothing else.
A beautiful soul
is More important
