When My Mom Sleeps, She Dreams
When My Mom Sleeps, She Dreams
by Latisha Johnson
(Navajo Nation Reservation, Crownpoint, NM)
When my mom sleeps she dreams
and she wakes up in the middle of the night
something is wrong it seems
I just hope she wont scream
When my mom sleeps she dreams
of wolves who are omens of the night
and bats who take flight through the night
it is impossible to see with no light
When my mom sleeps she dreams
Of mummies and monsters
and soon, comes out a giant lobster
But sure to stay extra low
and out comes a deadly crow
it is just a big maze
but somehow she can stand the craze
When my mom sleeps she dreams
not of sugar plum fairies and berries
but of the Howler and Bloody Mary
there are a lot of twists and turns
and things that burn
When my mom sleeps she dreams
of many scary things
and stuff on your jacket that clings
but when my mom wakes up
she tells me nothing is wrong
and I snuggle in her arms
because that’s where I belong
