Where Da Palm Trees Are

by Azariah Javillonar

Every morning is an u’i-ful one
Birds are singing and the sun is awakening
Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, and Kilauea are all in sight
With puffs of clouds, here and there, that look like coral

While you make your way towards Hapuna beach
In the ocean, humpback whales you will see
Splashing, waving, and spraying they will be
At Hapuna where da sound of 5 ft waves crashing and da smell of the salty ocean… it’s wonderful
Where coconut trees make da perfect shade for a picnic

Then da makani comes
Red dust everywhere
Da hale, creaking and shaking
My neighbor’s roof is flying
Da roof hits da power line
Then BOOM! an explosion
Mini tornadoes are everywhere, like ants when they go finding food
Da makani starts to die down
Then the

sets
Orange, red, and yellow fill da luna

Night came like da speed of light
Da sky is filled with stars due to da lack of clouds
My makuahine is always trying to find da big dipper

Going to sleep is like trying not to blink for 5 minutes
I lay in my bed for hours,
Sweat dripping down my face
Into a sticky puddle on my drenched pillow
I no can sleep

But no matter dat, you gotta admit,
it’s where da palm trees are
