Dear Grandpa

Dear Grandpa

by Robin Ribac

Dear Grandpa,

I never knew you well,

but you always had a smile on your face.

Even if I was never your favorite,

I want you to know that you are missed.

Dear Grandpa,

I took you for granted,

I thought you’d stay forever.

but one day you looked so pale,

and your smile wasn’t there.

Dear Grandpa,

The next few days,

you spent in a ivory colored bed.

One in Queens Hospital,

but you smiled one last time.

Dear Grandpa,

When you died that day,

I’ll never forget your last smile.

The one that won’t fade,

the one that was never fake.

Dear Grandpa,

The day you said goodbye,

to your family and friends.

Everyone cried,

but I knew that this wasn’t goodbye.

Dear Grandpa,

Now that you are gone,

I still keep you in my heart.

And say “I love you grandpa”

you are always in my heart.
