Mary Musgrove

Mary musgrove, 1700

Mothers gone, lets move in with father
Let’s live there till fifteen because of a slaughter
A war, but don’t worry ‘won’t harm us,
Just remember, here in this world, you gotta act proper
I’ll become an intermediary, for my tribe- a beneficiary, to the people of Georgia and their subsidiaries.
I was happy. Met the man of my dreams, had children, but they’ve struck an illness, it seems.
The kids are gone, they’ve vanished, from a virus,
We must stand with the old and new people beside us,
And they’re gettin’ righteous
They’re callin’ “Please, please provide us, your highness,”
Gotta… brush my shoulder, the dryness
Suprise us, invite us, guide us,
[Chorus] Spreading her name,
..Keepin’ peace,
Losin’ sleep,
Gonna make it step-by-step,
And gonna take it peice-by-piece,

He’s talking to a man
Who wants our land
I play as a helping hand
In this trade, this peace treaty, help them understand
I’m nurvous, I continue,
I remember my revenue,
But I get a better hand
The bestowing of Indian lands
I’ll tell the colony and get their permission,
What a great addition
…But it’s denied, and I get a proposition
I don’t like it, they treated me wrong
Kept me locked out of their fancy court doors,
for three hours and more,
I waited, got impatient
And bursted through onto their floors.
They arrested me, said I was drunk, and my side of it was ignored.
My husband apologized for me and was stuck indoors
I went to their proposition and it gave me bed sores,
[Chorus] Spreading her name,
..Keepin’ peace,
Losin’ sleep,
Gonna make it step-by-step,
And gonna take it peice-by-piece,
Fallin in debt cause the state
don’t do nothin but reject,
Has Her husband’s shoulder but soon has nothing left but it’s fine, I’ll follow them soon,
they’ll lead me, like I lead you,
My people reminiscing everything that was taken,
Barely in the history books
but you’re but you’ll still hear me singing,
preach it to our kids,
so they know what life we’re bringin’ em
